Lord Buddha was once travelling along with the disciples in a village. It was afternoon and unfortunately no one offered anything for their lunch. Buddha didn't utter a thing and continued the travel. But one of the disciples got hurt that none of the villagers respected the Buddha. This disturbed his inner peace and that further increased the hate...
Buddha, however, got to know the struggle that disciple is going through. Buddha stopped and turned to him, and said "I am thirsty, could you bring me some water from the near by lake..". The disciple took an empty jar to bring water, but returned with the same empty jar...
When Buddha asked why he didn't bring water, the disciple said, "Just before I reached the lake, a Bullock cart went across it to the other end. So the dirt present at the deep got mixed with the water."
Buddha asked him to go after some time. But still the dirt didn't settle down. This repeated for five times. For the next time, the dirt was settled down completely, and the disciple brought the water for the Buddha..
Then Buddha told the disciple, "The disturbance in the river caused the dirt to mix with the fresh water; At such times, we have to wait till the dirt settles down. Similarly, we should wait patiently to settle the disturbances that occur in our thoughts, only then the thirst for the inner peace will be satisfied..."
So it says to give time for the things settle down rather than thinking about the same over and over again..
(Meanwhile we can concentrate on other things to be completed..)
